how to develop toughness and grit

Hard training teaches you not to quit. It makes you tough.

I don't know where else you learn toughness. I guess you could learn it being a parent? Or doing hard work projects? But it’s not the same visceral feeling that you learn or experience working out. With hard training, your body wants flight and your nervous system wants out. The voice in your head says stop. But you learn how to push through, increasing your toughness capacity.

This is unique to training. And it’s what any athlete knows – think it’s part of the ‘athlete’s mindset.’ But once you’re done playing sports, where do you train it? Where do you test it?

The gym.
